Elecraft K-2. No. 6653 - Step 8: On-air test, first two-way contact, January 4,2009
On January 4, 2009. Elecraft K-2 was completed and tested on air. Operating from HAM-mobile,
a battery powered K-2 was running 5 Watts output power into home-made 3-band trap vertical for 20/30/40m.
The very first contact was made with JE1RZR over the distance of 9,250 Km. on 14,054 MHz. (Manabu was operating K-2/100 !). Few minutes later under rather poor band
condition I also worked FK8DD, BV7, ZL1. Just after my sunset, I had a lovely QSO on 40m with another JA1 and ZL2.
Needless to say, the little K-2 surpassed all my expectations. Thank you Elecraft!
